Q. How many people can watch at once?
A. There are no hard limits, but the theoretical limit is 10,000 because that's how many different people the database can manage.
Q. What devices are supported for the scorekeeper?
A. Any Internet connected device will work. However, some functions require a full QWERTY keyboard.
Q. What devices are supported for the viewers?
A. Any Internet connected device will work. We've tested with Windows and Mac OS/X laptops, Android and iOS tablets and phones, modern Blackberries, Samsung Smart TVs and they all work. The only devices that had some issues in our testing were older Blackberries.
Q. How much lag time is there between when the scorekeeper updates the scoreboard and when the viewers see it?
A. Typically, the lag is less than a second. If the scorekeeper's or viewer's Internet connection is slow, the lag could be longer. However Remote Score is programmed to adjust automatically when lag times are long.
Q. How much bandwidth (i.e. data) does Remote Score require.
A. If you're scorekeeping and adding play-by-play commentary, a typical game requires about 150MB of data. If you're also keeping track of players on the ice (which Remote Score turns into plus/minus stats and time-on-ice stats and goal-against-average stats) that can add 50MB.
Q. Does Remote Score work over cellular networks?
A. Yes! Even though cellular Internet connections are typically slower (less bandwidth) than wi-fi its not the bandwidth that's important since Remote Score doesn't send a lot of data. What's important is the lag ('ping') time and in our experience cellular networks have more consistent ping times than free public wi-fi.
Q. Who is Remote Score?
A. Remote Score is programmed by Don Barthel in Vancouver BC Canada. Don's daughter is an avid ice hockey player with the Vancouver Angels.
Q. Will you make remote scoreboards for other sports?
A. Yes, other sports and other scoreboarding tasks such as election results.
